A compressor scan captures precise 3D data of compressor packages and everything crowded around them — suction and discharge piping, scrubbers, cooler decks, skid steel, cable tray, and the access routes between. Compressor buildings are among the most congested spaces on a facility, and they are usually the least accurately drawn: years of tie-ins, guard changes and piping modifications rarely make it back onto the drawings.
Laser scanning records the package as it stands, in a single visit, without taking the unit off line. The scanner collects millions of measurements from each setup position, and those positions are registered together into one point cloud covering the full building envelope.
The result is a dimensionally reliable reference for the work that follows: retrofit planning, cooler and scrubber replacement, piping modifications, vibration remediation, and clash checking new equipment before it is fabricated. Because the measurements come from the scan rather than from a tape in a live compressor building, dimensions can be re-checked at any time without another trip to site.
That matters most ahead of a turnaround, when the shutdown window is fixed and there is no room for a fit-up problem discovered in the field.
